Al Green is the sixth of ten children raised by Cora Lee and Robert G. Greene, Jr., who worked as a sharecropper. When he was 10 years old, Al started to perform together with his brothers in their own group the Green Brothers. Later, the family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he attended high school, and where he founded the vocal group Al Greene & the Creations. Nevertheless, Al continued with music, and his next album came out in 1969, entitled “Green Is Blues”, reaching No. 3 on the US R&B Charts. This encouraged Green to continue in the same music genre, and his popularity grew immensely during the 1970s. Some of his albums achieved gold and platinum status, which only increased his net worth, and also topped the US R&B Charts. Albums “Let`s Stay Together” (1972), “I’m Still in Love with You” (1972), “Call Me” (1973), “Livin’ for You” (1973), “Al Green Explores Your Mind” (1974), and “Al Green Is Love” (1975), all reached No. 1 on the US R&B charts. However, after that, his popularity and success began to decline, and his albums never again topped the R&B charts. During the 1970s, he released albums “Have a Good Time” (1976), and “Truth n’ Time” (1978), among others, which helped maintain his net worth.

In the 1980s, he switched from soul to gospel music, and his fame returned with the albums such as “I ll Rise Again” (1983), “He Is The Light” (1985), “Trust In God” (1984) and “Soul Survivor” (1987), which topped the US Gospel chart, adding further to his net worth.
